What happened
Mount Sinai Health System embedded Facebook tracking tools — including the Facebook Pixel and Conversions API — on its patient portal and website. These tools collected and transmitted sensitive patient health data to Facebook without patient knowledge or consent, potentially violating federal and state privacy laws.
Mount Sinai denies any wrongdoing and maintains that no medical data was shared. The health system agreed to pay $5.26 million to settle the lawsuit and avoid the costs and uncertainty of trial.

Common questions
How much will I actually receive?
The exact amount depends on how many valid claims are filed. All eligible claimants are paid equally from the remaining fund after legal and administrative costs are deducted. No minimum payout is guaranteed.
Do I need to prove my data was shared with Facebook?
No. If you logged into MyChart during the class period and submitted a valid claim with your unique ID, you were eligible. You did not need to show any specific harm or evidence of data misuse.
What if I did not receive a settlement notice?
You may still have been eligible to file a claim even without a notice. The official settlement website, MountSinai-Settlement.com, allowed claims to be submitted without a unique ID in some cases. Contact the settlement administrator for assistance.
Does filing a claim affect my right to sue Mount Sinai later?
Yes. By submitting a claim, you release your legal claims against Mount Sinai related to the data privacy issues in this lawsuit. If you wanted to preserve your individual legal rights, you would have needed to opt out of the settlement instead of filing a claim.
When will payments be sent out?
Payments are expected approximately 91 days after the court issues a final approval order and any appeals are resolved. You do not need to take any further action after submitting your claim.
