What happened
In 2009 the State of New Mexico sued FastBucks Holding Corporation and related entities in the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe over the company's consumer lending practices. After trial, the Court entered a Final Judgment on November 8, 2016 finding those practices unlawful and ordering FastBucks to provide restitution to affected borrowers. A 2023 consent judgment and settlement agreement followed, and the New Mexico Department of Justice has now recovered approximately $964,000 in gross funds to distribute to borrowers.
This is a court-ordered restitution program run by a Restitution Administrator under the supervision of the New Mexico Department of Justice, not a private class action settlement. There is no opt-out process, no objection deadline, and no fairness hearing. Payments are calculated using a final distribution methodology that considers loan-level data, each borrower's net overpayments, the number of claims filed, and the funds available after administrative expenses. Accepting a restitution payment may bar you from separately recovering damages from these defendants for the same practices, so the program suggests consulting your own lawyer before accepting if you have concerns.
How to file a claim
-
1. Confirm you are eligible
You qualify if you borrowed from FastBucks in New Mexico between 2007 and 2016 and the program's loan records show you were adversely affected by the practices at issue. If you received a notice with a Claim ID Number, you have already been identified as an eligible borrower.
-
2. Understand how your payment is calculated
There is no fixed per-person amount. The approximately $964,000 in recovered funds, less administrative expenses, is divided among borrowers who file valid claims using a Court-approved distribution methodology based on loan-level data and each borrower's net overpayments. The more borrowers who file, the smaller each share; no specific amount is guaranteed. You can choose to be paid by paper check, PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.
-
3. File online or by mail
File online at the program's claim portal using your Claim ID Number by November 24, 2026, or mail the paper Claim Form (postmarked by November 24, 2026) to: FastBucks NM Restitution Administrator, P.O. Box 709, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. If you do not have a Claim ID Number, include information about your FastBucks loans so the Administrator can verify your borrower status. The Long Form Notice, the 2016 Final Judgment, and the 2023 consent judgment and settlement agreement are posted on the Court Documents page. There is never a fee to file.
-
4. Receive your payment
Approved payments are expected to begin in April 2027, although the schedule may change. Payments are sent by the method you chose on your Claim Form. Keep your contact information current through the online portal or by calling 1-844-982-4466 so your payment reaches you.

Where the money is going
The program is funded by approximately $964,000 in gross funds recovered by the State of New Mexico from the FastBucks defendants. Administrative expenses come off the top, and the remaining net amount is distributed pro rata to borrowers who file valid claims. Because this is state enforcement, there are no class counsel fees or service awards taken from the fund.
Individual payment amounts depend on loan-level data, each borrower's net overpayments, the number of valid claims, and the funds remaining after administrative expenses. No specific payment amount is guaranteed, and the program cannot provide tax or public-benefits advice about receiving a payment.
Common questions
How much money will I receive?
There is no fixed amount. The net funds (roughly $964,000 less administrative expenses) are divided among borrowers who file valid claims according to a Court-approved distribution methodology that weighs each borrower's net overpayments and loan history. Your share depends on how much you overpaid relative to other claimants and how many people file. The program does not guarantee any minimum payment.
Do I need to submit proof of purchase?
Usually not. If you received a notice with a Claim ID Number, the Administrator already has your loan records and you only need to submit the Claim Form. If you did not receive a Claim ID Number, you will need to provide information about your FastBucks loans (such as approximate dates and the store you used) so the Administrator can match you to the loan data and verify that you were a borrower.
What if I didn’t receive a notice?
You may still be eligible. File online at the claim portal or mail a paper Claim Form to FastBucks NM Restitution Administrator, P.O. Box 709, Baton Rouge, LA 70821, postmarked by November 24, 2026, and include details about your FastBucks loans. You can also call 1-844-982-4466 or email info@FastBucksNMRestitution.com. Do not contact the Court, the judge, or the Department of Justice directly about your claim.
Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?
This is not a class action, so there is no opt-out. If you do nothing, you simply will not receive a payment and your legal rights are otherwise unaffected. If you accept a restitution payment, however, you may be barred from separately recovering damages from the FastBucks defendants for the practices covered by the program. If you have your own claim against FastBucks, consult a lawyer before accepting.
When will payments be sent out?
Approved payments are expected to begin in April 2027, after the claim deadline passes and the Administrator finishes reviewing claims and calculating each borrower's share. The schedule may change. Payments go out by the method you selected (check, PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle). Keep your address, email, and phone number current with the Administrator.
