What happened

Plaintiff Adrian Cendejas, joined by Agustin Caccuri and Allen Neumark as proposed Class Representatives, filed this antitrust class action against Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC alleging that Sony engaged in anticompetitive conduct designed to monopolize the PlayStation digital game market. Plaintiffs allege that Sony's conduct caused consumers to pay more than they otherwise would have paid for certain digital games sold through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023.

Sony denies the allegations and denies any wrongdoing or liability, and the Court has not decided whether Sony violated any laws. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, risk, and time of continued litigation. Under the Settlement, Sony will pay $7,850,000 and, after court-approved attorneys' fees, costs, and service awards, distribute the remainder directly to Settlement Class Members' PSN account wallets pursuant to the Plan of Allocation.

You must be a U.S. resident who, between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023, purchased a qualifying digital game through the PlayStation Store. The game must have had a Game-Specific Voucher available at retail prior to April 1, 2019, at least 200 GSV redemptions prior to that date, and a post-discount price increase of at least fifty cents between the two comparison periods. Understand your share

The Settlement Amount, after court-approved attorneys' fees of up to 25%, reimbursement of costs and expenses, $30,000 in aggregate service awards for the three Class Representatives, and notice and administration costs, will be divided among Settlement Class Members under the Plan of Allocation. Sony will distribute each class member's share by crediting their PSN account wallet. There are no per-claimant caps and no proof of purchase is required for active accounts.

Less: Notice & administration costs To be set by Court
Available for class members (estimated) ~$5,857,500

Common questions

How much money will I receive?

The exact per-class-member amount has not been published. Sony will divide the Settlement Amount, minus court-approved attorneys' fees of up to 25%, costs and expenses, $30,000 in aggregate service awards, and notice and administration costs, among Settlement Class Members based on their qualifying PlayStation Store purchases during the Class Period under the Plan of Allocation. Each share is credited directly to the class member's PSN account wallet, so the actual amount depends on how many class members are identified and the volume of qualifying purchases each one made.

Do I need to submit proof of purchase?

No claim form or proof of purchase is required for class members with active PSN accounts. Sony will identify eligible class members from its own PlayStation Store purchase records. Class members with deactivated PSN accounts must provide the Settlement Administrator with their qualifying purchase information and a current address by August 27, 2026 to receive a check.

What if I didn’t receive a notice?

You can still receive a payment even if you did not get a direct notice. Notice in this case is being distributed by email to PSN account holders Sony has on record, and by publication and posting at PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com. If you bought a qualifying digital game on the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023, your share will be credited automatically to your active PSN wallet, or you can contact the Administrator at 1-877-777-9145 if your account has been deactivated.

Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?

Yes. Unless you opt out by mailing a written exclusion request postmarked by July 2, 2026, you will be bound by the Settlement and you will release the legal claims at issue in this lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC and the other Released Parties. That means you cannot sue Sony separately about the antitrust conduct alleged in the Second Consolidated Amended Class Action Complaint. The full release language is in the Settlement Agreement, available at PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com.

When will payments be sent out?

The Court will hold the Fairness Hearing on October 15, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín in San Francisco. PSN wallet credits and checks for deactivated-account class members will only be issued after the Court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved. The appeal process can take a year or more. No action is required for active PSN accounts; check PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com for status updates.
