What happened

Plaintiffs Victor Guzman, Perry Bruno, Lauren Fleming, David Plowden, Karen Betzag, and Jaime Napolitano allege that Dr. Squatch marketed its men's personal care products as "natural" even though the products contained ingredients plaintiffs claim are synthetic, misleading consumers who paid for natural products.

Dr. Squatch denies the allegations and maintains that its products were properly labeled as natural. The settlement is not a finding of wrongdoing or an admission of liability. In addition to the cash fund, Dr. Squatch agreed to change its front-of-package labeling, for example to statements like "At Least 98% Natural," or to remove the "natural" claim, on products made after set dates following final judgment.

How to file a claim

  • 1. Confirm you are eligible

You must have bought covered Dr. Squatch products labeled "natural" in the United States between November 1, 2018 and August 29, 2026. The full list of covered products is in Exhibit C of the Settlement Agreement on the settlement website.

  • 2. Tally up your claim

Each product is worth $0.50. You can claim up to 5 products without proof of purchase and up to 20 products with proof, such as a third-party retailer receipt showing the purchase and date. The two are cumulative, so one household can claim up to 25 products ($12.50). Only one claim is allowed per household, and amounts may go up or down pro rata.

Common questions

How much money will I receive?

Each covered product is worth $0.50. You can claim up to 5 products without proof of purchase ($2.50) and up to 20 products with proof ($10.00), for a combined maximum of 25 products ($12.50) per household. The per-product amount will be adjusted up or down pro rata depending on how many valid claims are filed, so the final amount is not guaranteed.

Do I need to submit proof of purchase?

Not for up to 5 products. To claim more, up to 20 additional products, you need proof of purchase, such as a physical or online receipt from a third-party retailer that shows the purchase and date in the U.S. during the class period. Get claim instructions directly from the settlement website.

What if I didn’t receive a notice?

You can still file a claim even if you did not receive a notice, as long as you meet the class definition. Get claim instructions from the official settlement website at PersonalCareProductsSettlement.com or call the Settlement Administrator at 1-855-706-1956.

Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?

Yes. The opt-out deadline was October 13, 2026. If the Court grants final approval, class members who did not opt out release claims related to Dr. Squatch's use of the term "natural" on the covered products during the class period, whether or not they file a claim. Personal injury and product liability claims are not released.

When will payments be sent out?

Payments are expected after the March 2, 2027 Final Approval Hearing, once the settlement becomes final and any appeals are resolved. This can take a few months, or longer if there is an appeal.
