What happened

The lawsuit concerns a targeted cyberattack on the systems of California Casualty Indemnity Exchange, doing business as California Casualty Group, which California Casualty discovered in September 2025. According to the settlement website, the information potentially involved includes names, medical information, taxpayer ID numbers, driver's license or state ID numbers, health insurance information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, and financial account or payment card numbers.

California Casualty denies any wrongdoing, and the Court has not decided who is right. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, risk, and delay of continued litigation. This is a claims-made settlement, so there is no fixed settlement fund. California Casualty will separately pay any attorneys' fees, litigation costs, and service awards the Court approves.

Common questions

How much money will I receive?

You can choose either an alternative cash payment of $50, which requires no documentation, or reimbursement of up to $4,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses fairly traceable to the Data Breach. You cannot receive both cash options. All class members may also enroll in two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete credit monitoring with $1 million of financial fraud insurance.

Do I need to submit proof of purchase?

The $50 alternative cash payment does not require documentation. Claims for out-of-pocket losses of up to $4,000 require documentation supporting the loss. You still need to submit a valid Claim Form, and the online form requires the LoginID and PIN on your Notice.

What if I didn’t receive a notice?

The class includes living individuals in the United States whose personal information was impacted in the Data Breach. The online claim form requires a LoginID and PIN from the Notice. If you believe you were affected but did not receive a Notice or no longer have your LoginID and PIN, contact the Settlement Administrator at (833) 360-6751 or info@CACasualtyDataSettlement.com before the November 16, 2026 deadline.

Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?

If you stay in the settlement, you give up the right to sue, continue to sue, or be part of any other lawsuit against California Casualty over the legal issues resolved by this settlement, whether or not you file a claim. The full release is in Section X of the Settlement Agreement. To keep those rights, you must opt out by November 4, 2026.

When will payments be sent out?

Settlement payments will be distributed if the Court grants final approval at the December 4, 2026 Final Approval Hearing and after any appeals are resolved. An appeal can add a year or more to that timeline.
