What happened
Plaintiff Thomas Backer filed this class action against Gametime, Inc. alleging that Gametime failed to adequately disclose the fees associated with ticket purchases made through its website and mobile application, in violation of California's Unfair Competition Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200, et seq.), California's False Advertising Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17500, et seq.), and California's Consumers Legal Remedies Act (Civil Code § 1750, et seq.). The lawsuit covers California residents who purchased tickets on the Gametime platform between April 18, 2018 and May 12, 2025.
Gametime denies all wrongdoing or liability and specifically denies that it failed to adequately disclose the fees associated with ticket purchases, stating it fully discloses fees as part of the checkout process. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, burden, and uncertainty of continued litigation. The Court has not decided who is right. Under the Settlement, eligible class members will automatically receive a Credit Voucher equal to 15% of their initial fees paid, with no claim form required.
