What happened

Plaintiffs allege that Times Internet (UK) LTD, which operates Willow TV, a streaming platform focused on cricket and South Asian sports content, shared or otherwise made accessible to third parties personally identifiable information (PII) about its subscribers, including information identifying which specific videos they watched, without obtaining their consent. Plaintiffs claim this conduct violated the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) and California law, which protect consumers from having their video-viewing histories disclosed without permission.

Times Internet (UK) LTD denies the allegations and denies any wrongdoing or liability. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, risk, and uncertainty of continued litigation. The settlement does not constitute an admission of fault by the defendant.

Where the money is going

This is a non-reversionary common fund. Attorneys' fees, service awards to the class representatives, and notice and administration costs are paid from the $850,000 before distributions to class members are calculated.

Total settlement fund $850,000
Less: Attorneys' fees & expenses (up to 33%) Up to $280,500
Less: Service awards (up to $7,500 × 2 reps) Up to $15,000

Common questions

How much money will I receive?

Your payment is a pro rata share of the Net Settlement Fund, meaning everyone who files a valid claim splits whatever remains of the $850,000 after attorneys' fees, service awards, and administration costs are deducted. The per-person amount cannot be predicted in advance because it depends on how many valid claims are submitted.

Do I need to submit proof of purchase?

No documentation is required. You just need to submit a completed Claim Form certifying that you subscribed to Willow TV and watched pre-recorded videos on Willow.tv between July 20, 2021 and September 22, 2023.

What if I didn’t receive a notice?

You can still file a claim even if you did not receive a notice by mail or email. Class notice was distributed based on subscriber records, but you are eligible as long as you meet the class definition. File online at WillowTVVPPASettlement.com or contact the Settlement Administrator.

Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?

By staying in the Settlement Class (that is, by not opting out), you release all claims that were pled or could have been pled in the lawsuit arising from the same factual allegations, including claims under the VPPA and California law. If you want to preserve your right to sue Willow TV over these issues, you must opt out in writing by July 21, 2026.

When will payments be sent out?

Payments will be distributed after the Final Approval Hearing on February 25, 2027 and after any appeals are resolved. Appeals can take a year or more, so payments may not go out until late 2027 or later.
