What happened

The lawsuit concerns a cyberattack on Carter Credit Union, doing business as Carter Federal Credit Union, that took place between June 25, 2025 and July 2, 2025. According to the settlement website, files that were compromised contained names, addresses, Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, financial information, medical and health insurance information, dates of birth, and other personal and health information. The Settlement Agreement puts the class at approximately 105,185 people.

Carter Credit Union denies any wrongdoing and liability, and the Court has not decided who is right. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the expense, risk, and uncertainty of continued litigation. Common questions

How much money will I receive?

You can choose either an alternative cash payment of $50, which requires no documentation, or reimbursement of up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between June 25, 2025 and November 19, 2026. You cannot receive both cash options. You may also claim three years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete credit monitoring with $1 million of financial fraud insurance.

Do I need to submit proof of purchase?

The $50 alternative cash payment does not require documentation. Claims for out-of-pocket losses of up to $2,500 require documentation supporting the loss. You still need to submit a valid Claim Form, and the online form requires the LoginID and PIN on your Notice.

What if I didn’t receive a notice?

Class members are identified from Carter Credit Union's records, and the online claim form requires a LoginID and PIN from the Notice. If you believe your information was compromised but you did not receive a Notice or no longer have your LoginID and PIN, contact the Settlement Administrator at (866) 675-2433 or info@CCUDataSettlement.com before the November 19, 2026 deadline.

Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?

If you stay in the settlement, you give up the right to be part of any other lawsuit against Carter Credit Union over the legal issues resolved by this settlement, whether or not you file a claim. The full release is in Section VII of the Settlement Agreement. To keep those rights, you must opt out by October 20, 2026.

When will payments be sent out?

Benefits are provided if the Court grants final approval at the November 30, 2026 Final Approval Hearing and after any appeals are resolved. An appeal can add a year or more to that timeline.
