What happened
In May 2015, plaintiff Allan Candelore filed a class action in the Los Angeles Superior Court against Tinder, Inc. on behalf of California consumers who were charged a higher price for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold subscriptions because of their age. The complaint alleges that Tinder's age-based pricing violated California's Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 51) and California's Unfair Competition Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200). The Court certified the class on July 15, 2024.
Tinder denies any wrongdoing and denies that any class members were injured by its age-based pricing policy. After the Court denied Tinder's motion to compel arbitration in January 2025, the parties reached a $60.5 million settlement at a September 10, 2025 mediation. The settlement remains subject to final court approval at the May 20, 2026 fairness hearing.

Common questions
How much money will I receive?
Payments are calculated on a per capita and pro rata basis. Every participating class member receives an equal baseline share of the Net Settlement Amount, plus an additional share based on how much they paid Tinder for Plus or Gold subscriptions during the class period. Class members who paid more will receive more. The exact per-person amount will depend on the final number of participating class members and the amounts approved by the Court.
Do I have to submit a claim form?
No. There is no claim form. If Tinder's records identify you as a class member, you will automatically share in the settlement. You should, however, choose your payment method on the settlement website by August 18, 2026 so that your payment is delivered quickly and to the right place.
What if I did not receive notice but think I qualify?
If you believe you are a class member but did not receive a notice by email, text, or postcard, you can complete and submit a Verification Form on the settlement website by August 18, 2026. The Settlement Administrator will review the information and confirm whether you qualify.
Does staying in the class affect my right to sue Tinder later?
Yes. By remaining a class member, you release your claims against Tinder related to the age-based pricing of Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold in California during the class period. To preserve your right to sue on these claims, you were required to opt out by April 8, 2026, which deadline has now passed.
When will payments be sent out?
Payments will be issued only if the Court grants final approval at the May 20, 2026 hearing and any appeals are resolved. Choosing your payment method by August 18, 2026 helps ensure your payment is delivered quickly and by your preferred method (PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, ACH, or a mailed check).
