The Trustees of The University of Pennsylvania, operator of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (d/b/a Penn Medicine), agreed to a $9,250,000 class action settlement over allegations that tracking pixels on the myPennMedicine patient portal disclosed patients' personal information to Meta and Google without consent. Pennsylvania residents who accessed the myPennMedicine portal between January 23, 2021, and January 23, 2023, can file a claim for a cash payment of up to $15.00.

Do you qualify?
You are a Class Member if ALL of the following apply:
- You accessed the myPennMedicine patient portal between January 23, 2021, and January 23, 2023.
- You had a Pennsylvania address on file at the time of access.
- Excluded: The Trustees of The University of Pennsylvania and its affiliates, parents, subsidiaries, officers, and directors; any judge presiding over the litigation and their immediate family; and anyone who timely and validly excludes themselves from the Settlement.

What happened
The lawsuit alleges that The Trustees of The University of Pennsylvania, as owner and operator of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (d/b/a Penn Medicine), used tracking pixels from Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), Google, and other analytics and advertising vendors on the myPennMedicine patient portal. Plaintiffs allege this disclosed patients' personally identifiable information to third parties without consent, in violation of Pennsylvania's Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Control Act (WESCA).
Defendant denies all of Plaintiffs' claims and maintains it engaged in no wrongdoing, including any access to, use of, or disclosure of health records. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the expense, burden, and uncertainty of continued litigation. Defendant is not currently using the Meta pixel on pennmedicine.org, and under the settlement its Web Governance Committee will assess analytics and advertising technologies on the site; for the next two years, Defendant will not use such technologies unless the committee determines that doing so is consistent with applicable law.
How to file a claim

1. Confirm you are eligible
You must have accessed the myPennMedicine patient portal between January 23, 2021, and January 23, 2023, and had a Pennsylvania address on file at the time of access.

2. Locate your Notice ID
You'll need the unique Notice ID and Confirmation Code from the notice you received by email to file a claim. If you didn't receive one but believe you qualify, call the Settlement Administrator to verify your identity.

3. File online or by mail
Submit the Claim Form online at UPHSPixelSettlement.com/Login by September 16, 2026, or mail a paper Claim Form (postmarked by September 16, 2026) to: UPHS Pixel Settlement, Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 4536, Portland, OR 97208-4536.

4. Receive your payment
Payments are issued after the Court grants final approval at the November 12, 2026 Final Approval Hearing and any appeals are resolved. Payment is made by check, PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle; checks expire 180 days after issuance.

Where the money is going
This is a non-reversionary common fund. Attorneys' fees and expenses, service awards to the Class Representatives, and notice and administration costs are paid from the $9,250,000 Settlement Fund before payments to Class Members are calculated.
All amounts above are pending final court approval at the November 12, 2026 Fairness Hearing. The Court may award less than the amounts requested. Each Settlement Class Member who submits a valid, timely Claim Form receives a cash payment of up to $15.00.

How much money will I receive?
Each Settlement Class Member who submits a valid Claim Form will receive a cash payment of up to $15.00. You must provide the unique Notice ID and Confirmation Code from the notice you received by email to file.
Do I need to submit proof of purchase?
You must provide the Notice ID and Confirmation Code from your emailed notice when filing a claim. If you did not receive this information but believe you are a Settlement Class Member, call the Settlement Administrator at 1-877-327-7567 to verify your identity and get instructions on how to file.
What if I didn’t receive a notice?
You can still file a claim if you believe you meet the eligibility criteria (accessed the myPennMedicine portal between January 23, 2021, and January 23, 2023, with a Pennsylvania address on file) even without a notice. Call the Settlement Administrator at 1-877-327-7567 to verify your identity.
Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?
If you do not exclude yourself by September 1, 2026, you remain in the Settlement Class and release your claims against Defendant as described in the Settlement Agreement, regardless of whether you file a claim. To opt out, mail a signed letter with your name, address, the case name and number, and a statement that you wish to be excluded to: UPHS Pixel Settlement, Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 4536, Portland, OR 97208-4536, postmarked no later than September 1, 2026.
When will payments be sent out?
The Court will hold the Final Approval Hearing via Zoom on November 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. ET. If approved, eligible Class Members will receive payment 90 days after final approval and any appeals are resolved. Payments are made by check (void after 180 days), PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.
