What happened
The lawsuit concerns a cyberattack discovered in February 2025 on the network of Communications Data Group, Inc. (the "Data Incident"). According to the settlement website, the information potentially involved includes names, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license information, bank account information, and Social Security numbers. The settlement website states that about 137,059 individuals were affected. The Defendants are Communications Data Group, Inc., Duo County Telephone Cooperative Corporation, Inc., Cumberland Cellular, LLC, and Home Wireless, Inc.
The Defendants deny any wrongdoing and deny that they have any liability, and the Court has not decided who is right. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, risk, and delay of continued litigation. This is a claims-made settlement, so there is no fixed common fund. Each valid claim is paid according to the benefit the class member selects.

2. Choose your benefits
You can claim reimbursement of documented losses up to $5,000 per person for unreimbursed expenses incurred on or after February 2025 that are fairly traceable to the Data Incident, such as fraud or identity theft costs, professional fees, credit freeze costs, and prior credit monitoring. Documentation is required. Class members who claim documented losses may also claim three years of CyEx credit monitoring with one major credit bureau and up to $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance. Instead of both of those benefits, you can choose a one-time $45 Alternative Cash Payment with no documentation required.

Where the money is going
This is a claims-made settlement with no fixed common fund. The Defendants pay each valid claim according to the benefit the class member selects: documented loss reimbursement up to $5,000 with optional credit monitoring, credit monitoring alone, or a $45 Alternative Cash Payment. Class Counsel's fees and expenses and the service awards are subject to Court approval.
All amounts listed above are pending and subject to final court approval at the Final Approval Hearing. The Court may award less than the amounts requested. Benefit amounts are per valid claim and are paid only after final approval and any appeals.
Common questions
How much money will I receive?
It depends on the benefit you choose. You can claim reimbursement of documented losses up to $5,000 and also claim three years of credit monitoring, or you can choose a one-time $45 Alternative Cash Payment instead. The settlement website does not describe a pro rata reduction.
Do I need to submit proof of purchase?
Not for the $45 Alternative Cash Payment or credit monitoring. Reimbursement of documented losses requires supporting documentation, such as receipts, bills, or bank statements, showing unreimbursed losses fairly traceable to the Data Incident.
What if I didn’t receive a notice?
The online Claim Form asks for the LoginID and PIN printed on your notice. If you believe your information was involved but did not receive a notice or cannot find your LoginID and PIN, contact the Settlement Administrator at (866) 601-3534 or info@CommunicationsDataGroupSettlement.com before the November 10, 2026 deadline.
Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?
If you stay in the settlement, you give up the right to sue the Defendants over the claims released by this settlement, whether or not you file a claim. To keep those rights, you must opt out by October 26, 2026.
When will payments be sent out?
Benefits are provided after the Court grants final approval at the November 16, 2026 Final Approval Hearing and after any appeals are resolved. An appeal can add a year or more to that timeline.
