What happened
This lawsuit, In re Methodist Home Care, Inc. Data Incident Litigation, claims that Methodist Homes of Alabama and Northwest Florida, a non-profit senior living provider, failed to protect personal information in two incidents: unauthorized access between October 2 and October 14, 2024, and between May 8 and May 21, 2025. Information potentially involved includes names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, Medicare numbers, medical treatment and condition information, passport numbers, driver's license or state ID numbers, health insurance information, and email login information. The case is pending in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County, Alabama.
Methodist Homes denies that it did anything wrong and makes no admission of wrongdoing by settling. The Court has not decided who is right. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost and risk of continued litigation.
